What primary services do you offer?

We provide Monthly Charter Fishing trips through Malama Charters Hilo to those who served in the military, Fire, Police, Special Forces and First Responders such as EMT, Nurses and Doctors.

What do you specialize in?

Fishing, Catching fish, Camaraderie among groups and natural healing for PTSD, Trauma. Just plain old talking among peers is great therapy.

What are the rates of your services?

Free to Military Veterans, Current Active Duty, Combat served, Reservists, Retired and Auxiliary. Government or State special task forces including State Defense Forces, Dept. of Defense. First Responders like Fire, Police, EMT, Trauma Nurses.

Are you licensed and insured?

Malama Charters Hilo carries liability insurance and has all necessary permits and Licensing. Captain has a 100 Ton Merchant Mariner license. Our limit is 6 passengers per trip plus crew.

What are your terms and conditions?

Military Members, Veterans and First Responders must present a valid ID to be placed on the wait list for monthly trips in order to participate in our program. Please Email us below or call (808) 289-3322 to be placed on our list.

What are your policies for the trips?

Show up sober, and ready to fish. NO alcohol, drugs, pot or firearms allowed. Chew, E-cigarettes and regular tobacco cigarettes are allowed. Caught fish are cleaned and split between participants. Large fish 60+lbs and over may be too large for processing and will go to fund future trips.

What is provided on trips?

We have lunch, snacks, soft drinks and juices on board for you. If you have special dietary needs, You will need to provide your own snacks or food as needed. We suggest you bring Sun block, Hats, Raincoats and Sunglasses for the trip. No professional or Medical/Psychological services are provided. 

How long is a typical fishing trip?

We leave the dock promptly at 0630, and trips generally are 6-8hrs depending on participants and weather.
